Grace – …..They both hung their heads low as they quietly walked out of the room.

Bam!
All of a sudden, an ear-piercing noise came from the carpark of which I had just drove out of. Within a second, there was a small cackling; the sound of a fire -recently ignited. I watched as it quickly grew and spread in the direction of the city hall. The gunshot, building on fire, it all happened within the blink of an eye. The smell of smoke, the sight of people running everywhere helplessly, the feeling of rust as my fingers rubbed against each other. I could almost taste the smoke as it filled my lungs. What just happened…
News flashed all over the place the next morning. “Breaking News!” it read. Replays of CCTV footage as the crime itself occurred. headlines on newspapers read “Murder or Massacre”. Images of the scene, a simple explanation of the situation. Soon, almost all the channels showing nothing else except the same situation. Cameras from all different angles showing the chaos; the madness. Facts and statistics pouring out, pointing out how many died and how many were injured.
The scene replays over and over again in my head. Flashes of images almost until I can recall the taste of the smoke once again. I turn on the television once again, everything seemed just as it was -untouched. The scene remained hazy, the dead body remained in the center of all the evidence left behind. The police huddled in a corner assessing all the evidence attempting to piece it together and solve the crime. The tape outlining the scene; clearly indicating the fact that there was a crime.
Hopefully, today was the day all the confusion would be cleared. As predicted, the autopsy results were presented by the doctor. Stating predicted about how the victim was shot approximately 49 hours ago. The body was once shown again, the maroon colored dried up splurge around the hole on the left side of the chest. The chief, explaining his thought on why he believes this tragedy was caused by two men working together. Using evidence such as fingerprints and gun license, they were able to track down the two culprits.
In the end, both men sentenced to death for first degree murder and massacre. They both hung their heads low as they quietly walked out of the room.

Grace – A Typical Family Dinner

A series of “Come, dinner is ready.” Mixed smells, mixed tastes, taking our time, eating at our own paces. However, before eating the delectable spread, a prayer; recited. Inquiries into the diners’ day and laughter echo throughout enjoying every moment whilst it lasts. Its family time, everyone’s talking, listening and adding to the banter. Lively conversations spark, enjoyable moments. Joy and happiness, rush of emotions pour out. The eagerness to share some news, some information, some achievement!
Casual glimpses of the bunnies, comments, worries and assurances “They’ll be fine.” Memories made, moments captured. Mixed emotions, feelings of joy, anxiousness, eagerness all burst out. Moments when you are so caught up in the conversation, you forget what you are going to say. Mixed scents float about in the air, flavors burst in your mouth, sweet, salty, bitter, spicy, sour. Casual plans for tomorrow are mentioned, events throughout the week are note. Some serious points are mentioned, it’s a different vibe, a different surrounding, a different feeling. Another mention of the bunny, liveliness is brought back, comments, conversations, laughter, all spark once again.
Compliments on the food’s taste, pretending to be a master chef. Plans mode on what everyone is going to do after dinner. Almost all leave the table. Wait! The fruits are brought to the table, attracting everyone back. More conversation spark, laughter erupts. It repeats once again, soon, most of the fruits are gone we look at the bunnies, both anxiously waiting to be fed.
We quickly pack away the dishes, wash up and spend time with the bunnies, who have patiently waited so long. It’s their dinner time. They munch away as we slowly pat their soft fur -both of then loving every moment, wishing that it could last. “Good night!” we say, as we close the door, we will see them tomorrow as well.

Janice : “…hung their heads low as they quietly ….”

It was a cold but bright day. The sun shone through the windows as the wind swept through
the palace. King Joel Bache sat on comfortably on his golden glistening throne.
“Valerie, forecast holograph please!” immediately she swiped up the live weather update.
King Joel watched the forecast. Sun with drizzles of rain before night. Starre glanced Valerie,
‘Why does she always get to do the holographs?’ he thought to himself.
Starre and Valerie were twins Born by a maid from the palace. The king took them to work in
the palace when they turned 12. They had been loyal to the king ever since. But things were
to change as they got older. Once they were taking their steps into adulthood, people
became jealous. Starre and Valerie were like Joel’s kids he bought good food for them good
clothes and got most of the things they wanted. Of course this was a kind of payment for
their service, but people and Villagers called it affection. People scrawled on their walls with
graffiti spreading rumors about them. This became so popular, the king got concerned. One
day as Joel was taking a walk, he thought about the graffiti and the words. He then decided
to ask Valerie and Starre if these rumors were true. Walking back to the room, they stood
there one on each side of the throne, patiently waiting.
“ Valerie, Starre, have you leaked out any private information?”
“ No, sir” they answered.
Joelle raised his eyebrows and pulled out pictures from his coat pocket.
“I will talk to you about this tomorrow at court. Go to the room.”
They both hung their heads low as they quietly walked out the room

Janice – My Greatest Achievement

My greatest achievement is getting a gold award for the Junior math challenge. (JMC). It
means alot to me because I worked very hard this year, for it all my effort paid off when I
received the award.
The Junior Math Challenge is aimed at allowing year 7 & year 8 students to compete but
year 5 and 6 students are also eligible. At Patana, only certain year 5’s and certain year 6’s
are selected to take part. The school will prepare the students with a series of sample test
papers for the students to practice in class. But I had extra practice at home. This challenge
along with other similar challenges are organised UKMT which stands for ‘United Kingdom
Mathematics Trust’. UKMT publishes many different challenges. All aimed at different year
groups.
This year, while at home, my mum printed out many past papers and every day, my sister
and I had to complete two papers each. We kept practicing them until we completed the
whole series just before the actual day of the challenge.
Much as she wanted, my mum couldn’t find enough past papers to prepare us which meant
that we couldn’t practice as much as we should. However I am very thankful that mum had
poured in her heart and soul to help me prepare to the best of my ability.
Getting a gold for the JMC is my greatest achievement because my mum was hoping for me
to get a silver award and my sister to get a gold award. But instead, I got a gold and she got
a silver. Normally, my sister would far better than me because she is older and wiser. During
the practices, she often did better than I therefore, I thought she would beat me. In the actual
challenge, I felt like the paper was the easiest test I had ever completed, definitely easier
than last years’!

Pavilion, Turf, Flowers, Sunflowers, Snapdragons

I am Courgette, a Dufflemuff Dragon. I live in a pavilion far north of America between the borders of Seattle and Vancouver. We Dufflemuff Dragons are cute little dragons that can transform into a human being. In dragon form, I have taffy pink eyes, rose red scales and a merigold orange tail. In human form, I have caramel tanned skin and sky blue eyes. I wear a seafoam green dress, lapis blue high-tops and a golden necklace.

You might think that living in a pavilion is very nice but no. I live in an enclosed pavilion, even the top is sheltered. Our enclosure has glass for the roof and iron for the walls. So if you can probably guess, the turf isn’t that thick and there are hardly any flowers. I like daffodils, sunflowers and snapdragons. I think they are pretty. Anyway not a single Dufflemuff dragon is happy there as you can probably guess. I am one of the many that hates it here. My fellow Dufflemuff Dragons and I have been planning, over the past few years, to escape. Good thing we all want to move to place where there is thicker turf and more flowers.

Our escape plan is so complicated we needed to have a meeting EVERY night; tonight we have our last one.

Janice Y5 – Climate Change

Climate change, the word we hear but not all of us believe in. What is Climate change? Climate Change is when the temperatures around the world change to a different change either suddenly or gradually.

Scientists believe that the ‘Greenhouse Effect’ is the primary cause of climate change. Not many of us know that we are living in a greenhouse. The Ozone Layer is supposed to help us keep this world cool and not so hot. Lately, the sun rays have been penetrating through the Ozone layer but not all managed to escape out of the gas rings. There are 4 layers of gas that circulates around the earth. Nitrogen, Oxygen, Argon and Carbon Dioxide. These gasses protect the earth’s surface, repelling most of the ultraviolet rays. But the Ozone layer has ripped, there’s holes. Now it’s easier for the Ultraviolet rays to pierce in. Apparently, not all of the rays can get out. They get trapped in the atmosphere causing the hot rays to wrap around the earth making the world warmer and warmer. What can be done to stop this? We don’t want to live in the type of world which replicates Mercury, do we? Don’t you want to live in the world where it’s nice and cooling?

We can solve this problem by taking a small step closer into helping the environment. Stop polluting the air with carbon dioxide. Stop leaving the lights on when you leave your house, besides your electricity bills would cost loads if you left the lights on. Stop doing whatever you’re doing that is harming the environment. Just keep calm and remember the 4’R’s

The River Poem

Plip, Plop, Plip, Plop

The rain skies down the mountain,

Splish! Splash! Splosh! Splish!

It rocks against the colossal mountain,

The water is delightful as it forms a stream,

It flows over the rocks like a monster cleaning its path,

It’s the tsunami’s baby,

Eating up all the rocks,

Shhhhhh! Shhhhhh!

It flows down like an endless white gown,

Kapoosh! Kapoosh!

It falls in the pool like an atomic bomb,

Now it’s an invader,

Going into the land,

It dances in the little streams like a professional,

Just like the Gypsies,

The slithering, snaking, smooth river,

Meanders through the lonely forest,

The river is dizzy,

It’s tossing and turning,

The river celebrates,

The river dances,

The river claps,

It is now set free,

It joins its long lost family,

Rolling over the sand,

Pushing and wiping the sandcastles away,

It returns to the ocean and rolls over again,

This is the end of the ride it took for now.

River Poem

The River Poem

I raft through the river,

I crash into the rocks,

The current is too strong,

That I am now lost,

I stop amongst some trees,

I pull out my rod,

Plus some live baits,

I fish and fish for the whole night long,

In the morning,

I retrieve some Muskie,

Some Pike,

And some Walleye,

I slice them ever so thin,

Then pick up three pieces of pretty raw meat,

And gormandize that all up,

I’m filled with energy once again to continue on my adventure,

I set off again,

Just before dawn,

I travel along the secluded stream,

Feeling lonely and bored,

I see a tributary coming up,

I hope a bay comes soon,

River Trent sure has a bay,

Most likely called Trenton Bay,

I arrive at the delta,

As tired as ever,

I fit through the little streams,

It pushes me through at a lower speed,

At least it takes me to Trenton Bay,

It’s true to say it took less than a day,

From the tree place to here,

I’m delighted to be alive.

Janice Y4 BPS : Poem

The Season Changes

The wind watches the art of autumn,

The trees sway like no other,

The bushes tingle and mingle and jingle,

The season has changed to nothing but winter,

The snowy blanket covers the brown grass,

The snowflakes drift like there’s no-one to mind,

The snow crashes and bashes and dashes,

The season has changed to sprouting spring,

The grass grows back and leaves turn green,

The bees fly like there’s too many jobs,

The bunnies hop and bounce and pounce,

The season has changed to super-hot summer,

The sun shines with everlasting power,

The rainy clouds dash away like the wind,

The sun shines and shines and shines,

The season has changed once again back to autumn.

Janice Y4 BPS : The House of Doom

House of doom

In Laura Calliestian’s view

In a dark, gloomy house there was a dark, gloomy bedroom and in the gloomy bedroom there was a dark gloomy box and in the dark gloomy box there was a dark gloomy curse…

Tip toes crept louder, louder and louder!

“Laura… Open the door…” cooed the ghostly voice.

“O-o-ok—”I shivered as I spoke. Reluctantly, I quivered and walk over to the door and… ‘Fiddle riddle diddle’ I twisted the handle.

“IN I COME!!” screeched a pale, ugly, dead creature, it was truly transparent.

“H-h-hi?” I stuttered.

“I am Emily Bloodhunter and we will fight!!” Emily blasted.

“Wait what?” I started, “so I let you in here to p-pick up a f-fight with me?” I continued nervously.

“Laura it is already too late to stop me now,” exclaimed the little ghost, as she yanked her sword out.

Petrifyingly, I grabbed my pillow, which flopped down immediately, and I clutched my bolster tightly. I knew it, I would survive even though I never went for fighting lessons.

“Ready? Let’s begin the fight of Labyrinth,” Emily bellowed.

I had two powers. One to tell/read future and ice power but I didn’t know to control them. Finally, I raised my hand, bent my elbow and screamed… “Ice shall fall upon my power,” as loud as possible. Ice tumbled out of nowhere, heading straight at Emily it towered up all around her; even an icicle roof was constructed. I had no idea what I had done. ‘Had I made a mistake? Would I be in trouble?’ I didn’t dare peep out of my ice blanket. ‘Was I safe now?’

In Emily Bloodhunter’s view

It was a dark, gloomy night and my master, Tyranapocolypise Mc Slythenadorrin was blabbering about safety when encountering little kids. It was super boring. “Bla bla bla.”

As soon as Tyranapocolypise Mc Slythenadorrin had finished his speech he gave each one of us a name and address. I received a girl named Laura and her address was Labyrinth, 4th avenue, 35/4. I knew exactly where that was. Additional information was room 342. This was going to be easy…

When I arrived, there was a sign that read,

 LAURA

The door was locked, and I needed to get in so I tried to say “Laura…open the door” in a high pitched voice.

She woke up and fiddled the door open.

I was sooooo excited, my first time encountering a kiddo. This was happy, exciting but petrifying.

As soon as Laura opened the door, I padded in with excitement and exclaimed “IN I COME!!!!”

As soon as I said that, I realized I had said that waaaay too loud. I was overwhelmed and forgot everything that Tyranapocolypise Mc Slythenadorrin had said. I felt stupid after that. Though surprisingly, she answered. “I am Emily Bloodhunter and we shall fight!!!” I felt like a stupid ghost to say that. But anyway, Laura was super surprised and replied,

“Wait, what? So I let you in here to p-pick up a f-fight with me?” She got a bit mad with me then. I rolled a sad smile over my face. I smirked in an awfully nice way, and exclaimed, “Laura it is already too late to stop me now.” Then I got excited again. “Let’s begin the battle of Labyrinth!!”

Before I knew it I was caged up in an ice thing. It surrounded me, even on top. There was no escape. I wept and wept and wept. Tyranapocolypise Mc Slythenadorrin must be waiting for me and maybe he will send his others to find me.

But there was no sign of them. I was an ice cube. Maybe not so easy after all.
